SUMMARY:Civil War Roundtable - The Confederate Raid on St. Albans\, Vermont
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for Civil War Roundtable with Darryl Sannes! This program takes place on May 10 at 3:45 pm. Please call the museum to register/ask questions – 320.253.8424 \n“Burn the Town and Sack the Banks\,” the Confederate Raid on St. Albans\, Vermont \nLate in 1864 the Confederate States of America devised a plan to bring “Total War\,” to the North and obtain some revenge for what was happening in the South. This almost stranger-than-fiction story\, accounts for the planning and the people involved in all of the aspects of this episode of the American Civil War. \nDarryl Sannes has been studying the American Civil War as a hobby all of his adult life. He co-authored the three-book set\, Patriots of Brooklyn\, the stories of men from Brooklyn Township who served in the Civil War. From 2011 through 2015 he served on the Minnesota Civil War Commemoration Task Force. He has been to all of the major Civil War Battlefields at least once and has been to Gettysburg 11 times. Sannes has over 500 Civil War books in his library. He has been a member of the Twin Cities Civil War Roundtable since 2006 and has been an officer and board member for the last five years. Darryl has also presented on Civil War subjects to the other Minnesota Civil War Rountables. Sannes is a board member for a local non-profit and spends most of his retired time researching history and genealogy.

In 2022\, every other month we will be enjoying a Historic Happy Hour\, complete with discussions of quirky historic topics and local craft beer. \nMitch Bender is a professor at St. Cloud State University\, where he has been teaching environmental studies since 2002. He considers himself a tattoo enthusiast. As a pastime\, he studies tattoo history and collects tattoo art and paraphernalia. His favorite era of American tattoo history spans WWI to the Vietnam War. \nThe drinking of the beer starts at 5:30\, and the program begins at 6!
